Siliconing Baffles into my sump

Rating: 4 votes, 5.00 average.
So I've finally got the glass for the silicone and decided on a sump design. With what I want to do, I've decided to go ahead and use a hang on back fuge (hopefully CPR aquafuge2) instead of making space for it in sump. The layout as it stands is this:

Return Pump/ Baffle Section/ Bubble Tower & Filter Sock & skimmer

The skimmer I got was the AquaMaxx AM200-S Skimmer from our buddies at www.marinedepot.com. So far it has good reviews. I'm excited to get saltwater in this sump and get it skimming.

I would like feedback since this is my first sump ever. Do you see any problems before I move forward with the silicone? (aside from the lack of the raised baffle) I know I'd like the return area to be bigger as well, but there just isn't room for it. The foam inserts are 1.25" thick. Any issues with that distance for baffles?

EDIT:
OPTION 2

you could move first baffle back a lil more to have a media tray out of eggcrate to throw bags of stuff on, do you plan on running fuge, or bio pellets. is your static area water line high enough for the skimmer.

i would switch the skimmer and the filtersocks...
that way water flows cross ways. if you put the sock in the middle, then the right side wont get dirrectional flow.
also, by putting the skimmer next to the baffle section, you can run the exhaust of the skimmer toward or in the baffles. that way the skimmer never re-skims clean water... its always pulling dirty water and skimming at peak performance.
    my opinion.

a media tray would be nice, but you can also throw a bag of carbon in the filtersock (seen it done, but never tried it myself.) but putting it in the bubble section will prevent if from getting clogged with detritus and stuff.

New picture posted. I was also told to make the return section as big as possible. Do you think I can get away with one less baffle to help the size of the return section to be 'that' much bigger?

Looks great Jess, the multiple baffles are just to catch micro bubbles off your skimmer. If you skimmer doesn't put out a lot of bubbles then a single baffle would probably be all you need. Heck, you may not need any if you're not using it for a fuge.

I went with an Eshopps overflow box instead of the CPR, it uses a U-tube for the siphon instead of the wide box. This way the flow is fast enought that bubbles go right through and don't get stuck at the top. No need for an aqualifter pump. Life Reef makes a similar one that's a lot more rugged looking, but a lot more expensive too.

take your screen off the return pump, and put a 90 pointing down. this way it pulls from the bottom and doesnt create a vortex and suck air. plus it helps keep things from settling in the return section.

if your running a ATO, then the return sections doesnt have to be too big.
if no ATO, then the larger the return section, the less often you will have to top off. (too small, and top off 2 times a day, and larger enough, then every other day. )

so if you have a ATO, then its not as big of a concern.

what size filter sock are you using?
and have you looked into using the E-shopps new filter sock. its square and more of a space saving design if you need the extra space. just a thought.
and looks good by the way.

Option two looks great as long as flow through your sump isn't so fast that micro bubbles are pushed under the baffle.
