I am building out my SPS dominated reef. My question is when most people refer to a colony, are they just refering to an sps piece fully grown out?
The second part of that is do all frags grow into colonies? For example i have a nice birds nest that is the exact shape as a half circle and 5 inches in diameter - i assume this is a colony. My staghorn acrapora is nice, but it grows up and sprouts a few branches - but does not look like it will ever become that half circle colony, it
i am looking to add some fish. Since i have had prior problems with semi-aggressive fish, i typically stick to only peaceful fish. I am definately getting a heptus tang (spelling) and would also love to add a yellow tang at the same time. the yellow tang does say semi-aggressive especially toward other tangs.
I see these two together in alot of tanks. Does anyone have experience with both or how aggressive a yellow tang really is.
I really dont want to put him in my tank
What is the perfect Alk level for a reef tank with all SPS corals?
Thanks
I have a 93 gallon marineland cube tank that has been running for about 14 months. it is lit by 2 of the new aquaillumination LED lights. I have a small bioload of 6 fish. Starting back in January of 2010 i began slowly adding SPS corals.
My nitrate, phosphate, amonia are all undetectable on salifert tests. my mg is 1300, alk is a little high at 10, and calcium is 430. I have a Staghorn Acropora and the DFS blue tenius.
At first, my lights were definately too hi
Marc, You have always been a great resource as I have gone through my reefing journey. You built my sump and have answered numerous questions for me. My tank has been established for a year and is thriving. Over the last three months I have been adding corals. So far everything is thriving, although I have had some algee issues - which i hope are gone for good now. In taking my reef to the next level, I feel like I have a decision to make and have no idea which way to go.
