I'm looking for suggestions on an external pump for my newly updated system. I had a 110 gal system with a basement sump that was powered by a Blueline HD40. The tank leaked so I'm replacing it with a Marineland DD 250 gal - very cool! But now I need more flow to achieve at least 4x turnover. Please give me your feedback for potential options that meet these parameters:
1) I want at least 1000 gph at ~12 feet of head pressure. I currently use my return pump to feed my fuge & GFO,
I was very excited to add my first serpent star to my tank last week, which promptly hid under the rocks. Two days later I was shocked to see it hanging on my rock wall just after the lights went out - missing the entire top of its carapace. It looked like a neat dissection with all of the top central disk gone, exposing gonads and stomach - the legs looked fine and tube feet were extended. I was even more shocked to see it moving, and I assumed this was just reflexes until it died. But I found
Just a couple of funny shots from my tank this week. First, I'm so excited to have discovered what I'm fairly certain is a new species of sea spider! I've tried to id it and I'm fairly certain that it is reef safe (but really unhappy...)
Second, I have no idea how this happened but I found a Palythoa trying to eat one of my hermits. I don't know how this happened because the Palythoas are
Its been one month since setting my first reeftank, in an extra hurry to house a large hippo tang that came with my used setup. You can see the details in previous posts but here's the run down. Water chemistry is stabilizing and everyone is doing well. I'm a science geek so I had to make some graphs of my progress:
I graphed the main parameters for the first 21 days and you can how
Its almost three weeks now since I set up my tank. If you saw my previous posts then you know that I've got an atypical setup for a newbie because I bought a tank that came with a hippo tang and lots of fully cured liverock encrusted various corals. Water chemistry is doing great!n I experienced a little nitrogen and phosphorous spike the first, probably due to a mini die off from the live rock being transported to its new home. For the past two weeks Temp, pH and alk are all very stable at good
