I was hoping someone could ID this stuff. My trates and phates are (supposedly) 0 and PH is 8.2. It almost looks like string or twine but its growing. Its much harder than other algae ive seen and its only growing on the outer edges of my returns.
My 135 has been running now for several (7-9) months. I am running a skimmer and a natureef denitrator with the phosphagone option for 3-4l months as well. The denitrators bacteria has grown well and has brought my nitrates down from around 40ppm to zero. My phosphates are hovering around .25 and im starting to get tiny amounts of very light green hair and cyano on a new piece of live rock i added a month or two ago. I have had filter floss running which i change out every couple of weeks.
I have some live rock in a cube with red velonia all over it. I am shutting down the cube and was wondering if i should put the live rock in my 135 or just let it dry out to kill everything off and then put it in my 135 to be reseeded. I hate to kill live rock but Im afraid if the velonia took over my 135 I might not be able to find enough emerald crabs to clean it up. Any advice?
Thanks
New guy here getting addicted to the reef culture. I have kept different FOWLR tanks over the past 7 or 8 years. (not very successfully due to lack of funds ). I am currently in the beginning stages of setting up a 135 that I just moved into our new house and thought I would share my successes and failures as I go along and hopefully your guys input can help me along.
So Far this is what I have running:
