Small Hiatus? Coming back after a bit.

by Neelixx on 08-09-2011 at 11:01 PM
Wow, I had no idea it's been so long since I've been back here! I let my hobby slide a bit due to some professional studies. However, I just learned an old friend of mine was into saltwater, and I reminded myself to come back here and see what all I've missed. Man, have I missed alot! Looking forward reading more!

Also, I want to start working on my "Aquaria" circle in Google Plus, so if anyone is on there, let me know! http://gplus.to/Neelixx (also, make sure your profile

News feed and Twitter?

by Neelixx on 04-04-2011 at 08:34 PM
Hey all. Looking for some good blogs and news items for my news readers. Anyone want to share their favorite RSS feeds?

Also, anyone on Twitter? Seems the only people I can find are just businesses that rarely want to talk about trends and opinions, and advertise.

Thanks!

Mid-Tennessee / Nashville / Chatanooga reef'ers?

by Neelixx on 03-20-2011 at 11:58 PM
Anyone in the Middle Tennessee area? Looking for some clubs / social networking in the area. MTRC (http://www.mtrc.org) seems to be dead.

I'm getting more and more involved with my aquatics hobby. I used to have a 55g FOLR tank, but now am working on 250g reef. The more people in the area, the better. Plus, it would be nice to do some frag swapping.

Really, the closest thing I have to a club is Aquatic Critters (http://www.aquaticcritter.com), which is just my LFS.

250g tank stand?

by Neelixx on 03-14-2011 at 08:09 PM
Looking at building a wood stand for a design I have. It's 8'L x 2'W x 3'T. My question.... can my tank stand design handle 3000 lbs? water + canopy There will be 3/4" plywood on both the top and bottom that the design doesn't show.

The corners and side legs are doubled-up 2/4's. I thought it would be easier than notching 4x4's.

Jumping in, Head First

by Neelixx on 02-16-2011 at 06:25 PM
So, I'm jumping in, head first, in a 5 foot deep pool. It's possible I will crack my head, or at the very least, bust my lip open, but I'm not one to just walk away from a risk. Okay, that's a lie... I usually don't take too many risks without an ENORMOUS amount of research.

I've kept a 55g FOLR tank for a couple of years now. I've been wanting to do a Reef Tank, but never could get my water quality good enough. 2 things I've learned: 1). having a sump seriously decreases the
