Hi, I am looking for a mentor, am going to set up a 48 x 48 x 20 tank. With 90gal on a opposite lighting cycle. I have looked at your set up and I am going to duplicate it as much as possible, no need to re-invent the wheel. To that end are you game?

    thanks

Hey Marc. I just found this site buy accident. I was a long time reefcast listener and was looking for other podcasts. Thanks for all the great content and all the laughs. I just finished downloading the first two reef addicts podcasts.

I think this site is a great idea. I hope it will provide more personal experiences and info. Things what usually get lost in the forums.

Is it worth siphoning off the CC and replacing it with the sand? the CC i am using is pretty fine already, and only about 3/4 to 1" deep. i have a sand sifting star and am getting a tiger tail this week to keep it cleaner.

I can always make it on my route. I was looking at a model F for a 125 gallon tank. I'll get the dimensions that I need as soon as I get home (I'm in the Navy and currently underway) or as soon as my son sends them to me.
If you've got any recommendations as to what would work, let me know. Thanks a lot.

Hi Marc. I was wondering if you still built custom sumps. I'm looking at setting up my 125g when I get to NY, but I need a sump for it since the one I had broke in shipping when I moved to WA from VA. I'll be more than willing to pick it up from you to save shipping since I'll be driving from WA to AZ then to my final destination in upstate NY. Thanks.

    Hi Marc,
Just wanted to touch bases with you regarding your trip up to the cold Northwest next weekend. We are looking forward to having you speak for us, and Im especially looking forward to picking your brains about my tank and showing you around Seattle. I'll hunt down your number and give you a call about mid next week if that works for you.

    Duane

Long overdue.

by melev on 05-13-2018 at 03:19 PM
It's been a long time since I posted here on RA, mainly because my focus has been on Melev's Reef. Still, RA is dear to my heart due to all the information that has been stored here over the years, documenting my 400g build and all the discussions we had when blogging wasn't even cool yet.

The 400g is currently 4.5 years old, and doing great. Here's a recent picture.

And the Anemone Cube, which is now being lit with a Radion

Day 1247: Three years, 5 months

by melev on 04-10-2017 at 03:23 AM
If you follow my youtube channel, you've probably heard how I have to get my arms wet and really cull the 400g reef because the growth at the top is shadowing everything beneath, and those things beneath have little chance of living. I hate to have to rip out these big colonies, but there's no choice. Here are a bunch of pictures of the tank today. I've also included some images of the Anemone Cube.

Biggest thing to happen recently was an alkalinity dip. When I see some coral turn

Not what I would do

by melev on 11-06-2016 at 12:52 AM
Had a surprise guest tonight. I was working on something and he and his wife showed up at my door to visit. My tanks were all less than stellar because I haven't cleaned the glass lately, and it occurred to him that he could try using his iPhone 7 Plus to take some underwater pictures. My frag tank is low enough for an easy test. So here are three he shared.

I bought myself this bandsaw over two years ago at the Denver MACNA. It was basically a gift to myself, but I never opened the box until two weeks ago when I started fragging some corals at last. It's pretty impressive, and hence I had to make a video about it.
