    hey marc,

what you think about having 2 returns on one side and the overflow on the other on a 55, or have the overflow in the center with a return on either side. i plan on getting an vortech mp40 or 20 haven't decided yet. these are going to replace my korila pumps. sorry i reposted on your visitor messages I didn't describe my problem very well in the blog

    thanks a ton

    Hey Marc,
Love that the info and videos but I wish you would go regular format on the forum I think you would get a lot of perticipation that way .I kind have a hard time with this format and find myself going to that other site to get a fix.
Any chance you might do that in the future? Again I love all the videos and info just long for the regular forum format here also.

no, it's 4 bulbs total (2 of their nova extreme x2 light fixtures)

few places suggested that a single fixture (1 10k t5ho and 1 actinic 460 t5ho) would be sufficient, but I don't buy it so I went with two. Just hoping I can get a few hard corals in there with the rest of my stuff

    Hey marc,

Could you give me some suggestions on activated carbon? Do you use it in your reef and do you think it helps any? Like, have you seen any negative effects for not using it?
Currently in my tank the only filtration in my tank is the skimmer, live rock, bacteria, and a moderately deep sand bed. I was thinking on adding a phosban reactor with an MJ900 to run AC. I'm thinking this will improve my coral/fish health. Your thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rangel

I didn't want to clutter up another post, so figured I'd just drop you a message.

I'm trying to decide if I actually went a little TOO crazy on lighting. Right now I have 96 watts of t5 ho lighting on my 29 gallon tank, with individual parabolic reflectors on each one (It's actually two current usa 30" t5ho lights... as they don't make a 4 bulb system in the 30")

Bad idea? or is it enough that I should flaunt sps corals in a 29 gallon tank?

    I should rectify my post...
There exists a thread on RC that discusses the re-charging thoroughly.

Am I allowed to post a link to that thread? There is a great deal of info in the thread.

Long overdue.

by melev on 05-13-2018 at 03:19 PM
It's been a long time since I posted here on RA, mainly because my focus has been on Melev's Reef. Still, RA is dear to my heart due to all the information that has been stored here over the years, documenting my 400g build and all the discussions we had when blogging wasn't even cool yet.

The 400g is currently 4.5 years old, and doing great. Here's a recent picture.

And the Anemone Cube, which is now being lit with a Radion

Day 1247: Three years, 5 months

by melev on 04-10-2017 at 03:23 AM
If you follow my youtube channel, you've probably heard how I have to get my arms wet and really cull the 400g reef because the growth at the top is shadowing everything beneath, and those things beneath have little chance of living. I hate to have to rip out these big colonies, but there's no choice. Here are a bunch of pictures of the tank today. I've also included some images of the Anemone Cube.

Biggest thing to happen recently was an alkalinity dip. When I see some coral turn

Not what I would do

by melev on 11-06-2016 at 12:52 AM
Had a surprise guest tonight. I was working on something and he and his wife showed up at my door to visit. My tanks were all less than stellar because I haven't cleaned the glass lately, and it occurred to him that he could try using his iPhone 7 Plus to take some underwater pictures. My frag tank is low enough for an easy test. So here are three he shared.

I bought myself this bandsaw over two years ago at the Denver MACNA. It was basically a gift to myself, but I never opened the box until two weeks ago when I started fragging some corals at last. It's pretty impressive, and hence I had to make a video about it.
