Moving the new 245 G with 2 people

Rate this Entry
On Saturday (8/14/2010), I purchased a new 245 G (72Lx30Wx36T). The only problem is that I only had my cousin to help move the tank once I got it home. Here is how we managed to do it.

1) First we removed the tank from my van onto a wagon that had inflatable wheels. (Notice we used the suction cups, they were a life saver)

2) Next we nailed 2x8s to the stairs to slide the tank down on.

3) Next we pulled the wagon and lined the tank up to go through the door. (Sorry don't have a pic of this)

4) Down the stairs we go. My cousin used the suction cups to help guide the tank down while I was on bottom. Here are the pics of us going down the stairs.

5) Once we got is down the stairs, we positioned it in its temporary destination until I can build a stand and start building it in the wall.

In the end this took us about an hour, which included the time take the doors and put them back on. Everything and everyone made it through unscathed. My cousin and I managed to play a soccer game the day after we moved it.

Awesome! Congrats on your new tank. I was looking at your pictures to see if you used the wagon to roll the tank down. hehe

I look forward to seeing your graph paper and ruler sketches... I'm doing one right now for the new and improved fishroom. Let's see yours. Btw, I'm going to need your full mailing address in a PM.

Thanks Marc! I did some simple sketches in excel. I unexpectedly picked up a frag tank as well, so I have to go and redo my plans a little bit. I'll post those when I get them done.

Thanks Hat! This is the second time he and I had moved a tank. My wife was there to make sure neither one of us got injured.

Congrats, we did pretty much the same thing my my latest tank. Can't wait to see the build pictures. Have you used Google sketch-up yet? I did mine in there and with the 3D view it was a life saver.

I have tried it before but didn't have very good luck with it. I will see if I can try it again.

OMG, I can't believe you made it down the stairs as well. You available for a move in NC?

Sorry NC is a little far. Actually the stairs wasn't as bad you'd think. There was enough friction with the wood that it went down a lot slower than you'd think.
