ok guys im am going to be building a canopy for my 150 gal and i have a 2 bulb t5vho light but i dont think it will fit in my canopy so i am looking into buying a ballasts to run 4 t5vho bulbs 48in, i am looking to get one at a good price i found 1 in my hunt it is the icecap one and it is 175 i think thats to much any ideas on where i could find one at a cheaper price and also i was thinking about doing the light in t12vho because of the higher watts but i was told by the people at icecap that a 54 watt t5vho would be better then a 110 watt t12vho is that true you would think that the higher the watts the better the bulb right?i dont get it HELP and any ideas on where to finde a cheaper ballasts would be great thanks guys

I believe that for your footage you will find that you can get more light from the t5's / energy consumption than VHO. But I am not sure about PAR out put one vs the other.

Hey SlickRick, I am still in the search for exactly what you are looking for. Is the t5 ho 4 bulbs for 175? And, is it a light strip or retro kit? I've been looking at www.hellolights.com . They have some nice merchandise at pretty good prices. Check them out!

I have the Tek 2 T5 HO 8x54 Watt and love it, its the retro kit for my hood, all individual reflectors and put out nice lighting, so far im keeping SPS so far no problem.

I have VHO T12 super actinic supplement lighting over my tank. Love these bulbs for night viewing of my reef. As far as the VHO vs T5 goes ... I remember reading somewhere a test between a 110W 10K VHO, a 96W 10K power compact, and a 54W 10K T5HO using an SLS parabolic reflector, and they were all somewhat similar in PAR output. That would make the T5HO put out nearly twice the PAR per watt of the other two. So if these are going to be the primary lighting for your reef, I would stick with T5 or MH.

the thing is i am i was thinking t5vho and t12vho but i think im going to go with the t5vho so now i just need some suggestions on where to find a ballasts at a good price i looked at ice cap they say their ballasts could put out something like 80 or 83 watts out of a 48 in t5vho instead of 54watts witch all the 48in t5vho bulbs i see are all rated for 54watts they clame their ballasts can push out more i don't know if i really believe that and also they want like 175 for the ballasts i need i think that is way to much money thanks guys for all your input and hat im deff going to check out that site thanks
