Looks like a frog spawn to me. I've got a nice soft ball sized colony in my tank that started out the size of one of your heads about 5 years ago. Never heard of an octopus coral before, possibly another common name for the frogspawn?

Octopus coral is the same as grape coral which is essentially just another name for the frogspawn walls.

That's a coral in the Euphyllia family.

Is there anything in your tank that seems to be picking at it? Is your tank presently dealing with cyano bacteria? Put it in an area of low flow and not directly under the hottest spot of your lighting. You still have one side that looks healthy, but the other one is peeling away. You may be lucky and it won't quite let go. That happened in my tank a few months ago.

The tank that has the Euphyllia is a 29 gallon oceanic biocube.

For what sized tank?

LPS corals like that don't need, or like a lot of powerful current. I've got 2 of those Koralia 1's in my 50 long, they're pretty mild and 1 of them should be fine in your 29 when coupled with the filter section return.

any advice on the cyano? I feed 2 times a week if that helps any.

To eliminate cyano, increase flow and add more clean up crew.

Or leave off the lights for three days.

Or treat the tank with a product like Chemi-Clean or RedSlime Control.
