Set up a new 75 gallon tank still a little algae left from when I started cycle over a month ago. I have been reading the posts on vodka dosing and I am deciding if I want to or not. I have no coral yet, just 2 cromis which are doing great, 6 crabs, 6 hermits, I think they are good, I only see 1 at a time and not very frequently, I have 5 turbo snails and 15 regular snails, and 2 bottles of tiggerpods they have all been in the tank for about 3 weeks. my concert is my first coral/s I leave the new purchases in its own area with its original water to become same temp, then drip my tank water in for about 10 - 15 min. but should I change this method if I start to vodka dose. for those who have been doing vodka dosing, have you added new items? How did it go? also, for those who have been doing for greater than 6 months, what marked improvements have you seen. color, growth? I did read your post in the old reef cast site which I read all the time, catching up to current times. but is allot of reading and slow going.

    I just started the NP Biopellets which is advertised as solid vodka dosing, ive only had it going now for a couple of days so not sure what the real results will be for a few weeks but it seems like the way to go and not having to dose all the time.

    If I was you I wouldn't really mess with vodka. Your tank is still very new, you are going to end up going through some "new tank" stuff, like diatoms, algae, etc. that is very normal. Your best bet is to keep up your water quality and just ride out some of these things and not worry about dosing carbon.

    I totally agree with lvpd.cop. I wouldn't worry about vodka right now. Get your coral/fish you want right now. You still have a bit of a ride to go on for now. Keep your water quality up and parameters up and let your tank go through it's paces. It is unavoidable, no way out of it. In the mean time read, read, read as much as you can on the subject on UNLS systems. I did it for a while and after fighting with cyno and other issues that can arise from vodka dosing I give it up, wasn't my thing, and concentrated on water quality the old fashioned way. Water changes, a good carbon and gfo. I know Mark and many others have had great success. But you need to educate yourself as much as you can and be prepared to be committed to it. That was my problem, no commentment. I had done it the old fashioned way for so long I couldn't get my head wrapped around it. It can also cause bacteria problems in fish if your not careful. My .02.     Thanks for the advice, I aggree I have a long ways to go, these are just some of the questions I have for the future, I have allot of diy set ups going right now. I have a water change down to under 15 min now and I do 2 10% changes a week. I actually enjoy testing my water and doing the deeds needed. But I am still curious on all that I read. 3 more pod casts and I will be caught up. If you guys see this post, I really enjoyed episode 30, I do like the video cast.
