Hello Reefers!
As stated in the blog title I am a newer reefer, having my tank set up for about 6 months now. I have had tanks off and on since I was a teen but now finally tapping into the saltwater side of things. Im about to turn 30 and my life is calming down and I find this hobby has been a great, healthy outlet for me.
I have a 55 gallon set up that was my fresh water tank. Spent the time cleaning the hell out of it, paint all the old fake wood trim to black along with the back a nice sea blue. Scrapped the old lighting setup and purchased a T5 rig of 4 54 watt I believe. I have about a 30 gallonish sump with my overflow coming down into a carbon sock, next protien skimmer (JAG brand 428, frankly may be too small) and a return pump back into the tank. About 50 lbs of live rock with a handful of smaller reef safe fish and clean up crew in which I feel may be light as well.
As far as corals mostly LPS with a few softs and now a few SPS in which I hope thrive!
I have been dosing with cal, mag and alk supplements from seachem. No kalk or 2 part as of yet but I am just educating myself about them and am looking forward to finding a solution to help stable my tank and that is where I am looking for some advice. I also need to get some sort of top off system going so my salinity stays the same no matter my water evap. I am simply adding ro/di daily.
Any ideas? I have been looking at the 2 part supplement kit from bulkreefsupply.com. Seems to be legit and at a fraction of the price as B Ionic all my LFS are pushing.
Thanks for your time!
