Ways to get rid of majano and aiptasia

Rating: 3 votes, 4.00 average.
All reefers that have bought live rock it’s only natural for the rocks to come with aiptasia or majono anemones. I have used most products and creatures out there to rid of the pest and the ones I haven’t used or tried I have done enough research to gather the odds and ends of them. But some reefers don’t even know what they look like at as the majono looks more appealing then some coral we buy! I am going to give a quick list that worked for me and a little description on what they look like and info on how to handle. Most of the chemicals, JJ, aX, pl, are kalkwasser and kalkwasser has a ph of 12. The ph is what kills the anemones and can kill coral too.
Aiptasia

aiptasia are tank/brown in color, looks might look like a Sebae Anemone but smaller and stalk more visible. DO NOT REMOVE THEM MY HAND! you will cause them to tear and create more by teared skin.
Chemical
- lemon
- pickling lime
- Joes Juice ( swear by it ) http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...-aiptasia.html
- AiptasiaX
- Kalkwasser ( jj and aX is just fancy kalkwasser put in a small bottle.
- boiling water
- flame ( get a lighter, take the rock out and burn the heck out of it)
Natural

- copperband ( only controls )
- peppermint ( hit and miss, trying to remove one from my own tank. trying to eat frogspawn)
- nudibranch
Majono
has a blue/purple stem and neon green tentacles. DO NOT REMOVE THEM MY HAND! you will cause them to tear and create more by teared skin. Nothing really natural can elminate majonos, chemicals are your way even though I hate to use them.
Chemical

- lemon

- AiptasiaX
- Kalkwasser ( jj and aX is just fancy kalkwasser put in a small bottle.
- boiling water
- flame ( get a lighter, take the rock out and burn the heck out of it)

Natural
- racoon ( only controls)
- peppermint ( only picks at )
- copperband ( only controls)
Common and different.

- The aiptasia I think is harder as it digs its roots in wholes as a majono, more like a real anemone puts it foot at any location.
- Grows really fast
- majono is attractive and aptasia not
- aiptasia are found more often
- can sting coral to death

I used pickling lime and lemon juice for the Majono's and haven't had any since. As far as Aptasia in the past I've had peppermint shrimp that did a fantastic job within a week of adding them all was gone. When I switched tanks I lost a couple of shrimp and the aptasia returned. I tried the pickling lime and lemon juice and while it was effective I just couldn't keep up. So I bought a Copper Banded Butterfly even though I knew it was risky, its been almost eight months and I still have the CBB (fat and healthy) and no aptasia.

my peppermint released some babies last night. The whole event reminded me of oat meal in a calucium reactor. I hope that some live and eat some aiptasia.
