Starting over with my tank!

Chewing gum......just need some chewing gum and all will be ok.


Really though, anything with threads needs teflon tape, anything going on a barb needs a hose clamp, and anything (PVC) involving a slip fitting needs glue. Simple enough.

i agree with jason in the fact you should just use some chewing gum on everything. but seriously anything with threads needs teflon and anything with a slip coupler needs to have primer and glue on it. just out of curiosity, what size pump are you running. from the picture it looks pretty small for a 75 gallon tank.

Any chance this tank was a prior freshwater tank? Doesn't seem to be set up for the flow needed for saltwater application.

If you need more flow I can make you a deal on some RIo's. lol

I'd watch out for those Rios. Being oil lubricated and all. As soon as a seal goes you'll have a mini BP oil spill going on in your tank!

Regarding your tubing, that that we've identified that rodent, I would keep it clean and remove any extra fittings to reduce friction loss. All those extra components just add extra drag on the return. You should have tubing from the pump to the bulkhead's nipple. Plastic hose clamps on both ends. If you can't fit the tubing over the nipple/hose barb, heat up a mug of hot water to near boiling, immerse the end of the tubing carefully and hold it there for 20 seconds, then press it onto the hosebarb quickly (using a towel to not burn your hand).

From the bulkhead up, rigid PVC to a couple of elbows, then out of the locline.

You MUST have anti-siphon holes drilled .5" under the normal water level's surface in the display area. You may be drilling the locline, or the PVC depending how it sits in the water. When the return pump is off, 1/2" of water drains back out via siphon, then those holes suck in air and break the siphon stopping any more drainage. Anti siphon holes should point down or forward, never up. When you turn the return pump back on, water will shoot out of the hole, so plan accordingly. Once the tank refills you won't see that stream any more because the hole is submerged again.

Thanks for the info Marc! Yeah, they do have tubing then pvc then tubing again. I'm going to clean that up. Yeah I have to drill the holes so the house don't flood. Heh. How many holes should I drill?

Hey Marc, I'm glad I finally have a sump, but do you think I should hang on to the 29 gallon an d eventually make a 3 section sump out of it instead of this trickle type? Or, do you think this sump will do the job?

Another question. Would the return pump bust the glass on the sump if it's touching it? Space is tight in the sump.

Just don't install your pump with a hammer and you should be fine.

Okay, plumbing is all done!! Water is in and everything is running well. I will post some pics tomorrow. I have to finish painting and installing all the bulb and running all the electrical. I still have to see what i'm going to do about ballast for two of the bulbs. The doors are finished as far painting I need to get all matching hardware for doors and canopy.

Yes, and I drilled two 1/8 holes .5" down from the water line, tested for power failure at least 3 times..lol. I don't want a flood. I'm not going to put stuff in tank though till like friday. I'm going to test, test and re-test till then. I LOVE MY TANK!! I put 20 pounds of sand in tank will probably add another 20 pounds in the next few days. I want a 150g next..lol..no time sone, very happy with this one for now! I really have to mod. my skimmer because how this trickle sump is set up it doesn't have much room for anything. Do you think I can put my heater in the sump and it will work properly? Because it seems to have a fast flow and will not have time to heat fast enough. Let me know. I also have a RO/DI, my sis gave me that I will have to install soon..woooot!

I have to finish painting the canopy. I ran out of paint but now I have more. I finished painting my doors and need to get new hardware for it and the canopy. The white/white semi gloss looks great on the stand and canopy and in the house, plus wife loves it, thats a plus too. I will only have 2 lights running for a bit because I need more ballast. I really like the 660 IceCap but will have to wait..lol..maybe till my birthday in October or Christmas..hahahahah.

I will probably wait till canopy is up and the 2 lights are on before I post again and all the pics i've been taking.
