Starting over with my tank!

Update!

Rate this Entry
I just did a 2 day no lights on my tank to help with the algae. To my surprise all the cyano and all the hair algae was off my rocks. They had a little cyano on the substrate and I vacuumed it up with a 5 gallon water change. Here is a picture of the tank now. I still have some of the green rock algae but without the cyano and hair I feel good and that algae with vanish in time.

Here is a bigger update! I was going to trade one of my computers for a 75g RR tank. But I couldn't get a ride and help. The tank owner said yesterday that he might be able to bring it to me. I got a email today saying he wants to trade but I would have to come get it. I cannot! ;-l

That sucks about not being able to get the bigger tank. I really want a larger setup myself... but I'm holding myself to at least filling this 29 gallon before I spend thousands on an upgrade lol

Yeah, this one is RR and has a sump and everything. I don't know. I feel a bigger one now will help keep perimeters more in check. With sump it would be somewhere around 100g.

Wow, I was looking at my tank with my scope just now and I can see where coraline has actually grown now. I see a zoa that fell of of a colony below and is in a cubby hole on a rock. my new Blue Ridge looks like a fuzzy bear, ok maybe not but it sure is out and flowing in the current good. my Monti Caps have grown out some and 2 out of 3 of my encrusting Montis have grown a little. I have a little what I believe is turf algae on my top rock, I did what Melev's Reef said to do and took some snails off my glass and put them up there. Hopefully they will get to work. I still see hair algae, strands of it here and there. I hope my cleaning crew will take care of that. So nice to be able to see my rock again. Since I have no fish my cleaner shrimp is the boss of the tank. I can't stick my hands/arms in the tank to do anything without it trying to clean parasites off me..lol.

Hey, looking good! That hard green algae on the rocks won't hurt anything.

Thank you Phil, yeah I love that it's all gone. ;-)

Oh yeah, thanks, I hope all my corals grow better now. I added another pic at top to show how they look at night.

heh, I got a truck too that I'd lend you a hand with if you were closer.

I'm looking forward to next week, I got a nice shipment coming in for my tank... plus I already have 1 new friend from ora hiding in there already. He doesn't come out much for photo opportunities though

yea, but I'm somber... I just lost my clown

My sponge was loaded with crap on the pump for the fuge... I did like I've always done, popped it off real quick, go rinse it out in the sink, and go to put it back on... and he was inside the power head. He was awesome too, and his third bar was finally starting to come in some.

Needless to say, the HOB fuge is coming off either this week or the one after and I'm doing an overflow into the sump so that I don't even need to run that stupid sponge. I didn't really like the look of that pump in the tank anyways, and I kept getting a bit of chaeto here and there to spill over into the DT. I just don't know where I'm going to get the time to make the overflow with being so busy at work right now, or even partition the sump and what not at that

Sorry to hear that Dread! ;-/. The HOB can't be modified safer?

WooooHooooooo....my wife said she willl bring me to get my new tank and my sister is going to loan us a van. ;-) I'm so excited!!! 75g RR..oh yeah baby!!!

The fuge could easily be turned off while I'm cleaning the filter... He's been close to it before and it was never a problem.. I guess he just got too curious this time. I just don't like the look of the big pump being in the tank honestly. With a sump I can hide all the equipment... I just only have 23 x 10 to work with under the cabinet, so will most likely make it 18 x 10 x 10, put the skimmer and all down there, and then all I'll have is some pvc piping coming up.

I know, the tank I'm getting tomorrow has a sump... Finally.

Hey Hat, tank looks good! Awesome to hear you are getting a 75. That is going to be a nice upgrade! Also I like the smiley face on the top rock in the pick you posted! The monti cap looks like the mouth and I guess those are two snails that form the eyes haha. Anway you have to post pics of the new set-up when you get it.

Hey Douwant2play, thanks! Lol yeah it does now that I looked at it. I took that pick right after I serviced the tank. That rock has I think, turf algae, so I actually put three snails up there on the rock.
