Getting ready for my big upgrade!

Rate this Entry
I picked up my new tank today, an Oceanic 58g (36x18x21). It will sit on a freshly built stand. I will be transferring all of the equipment from my current tank and will be picking up a few goodies this week. I am waiting for the pin-wheel on my Euro-reef RS-80 to come back from Reef Dynamics on warranty.

I made the mistake of starting my first tank with crushed coral. I will be using 40 lbs. of Seaflor special grade sand for the new tank. The 40 breeder I have set up now is using 2 koralia 3's for flow and I think they are doing a good job. With the added height of the 58g I figured that an upgrade was necessary. I took the plunge and a brand new Vortech mp40w is on its way! I did a lot of research on this purchase but for me, I don't think that the new Ecosmart driver is worth the extra 60 bucks. Maybe later down the road.

I am really excited to try this pump out. On the WOW factor, I am hoping that this will be up there with my upgrade from pc's to a Lumenmax 3 250w DE pendant. For trace elements I am currently running a kalkwasser reactor to top off. I think that soon I will add a 2 part dosing system. I am not sure if I will keep the kalkwasser reactor running though.

For prosperity's sake, here are a couple pictures of my current set up before I tear it all down. This was set up on May 4, 2009 almost a year ago to the day I will put some pics together of the new set up and try to document the transfer.

Good idea to document the old set up now, so you can make comparisons later.

It is a 40 breeder. The new tank adds 6 inches in height. I painted the back of the new tank last night and it's sitting on the stand. The dimensions look terrific. I am hoping to fill up the extra room with some larger towers.
