Power (UPS)

As the years go by, equipment gets old and eventually fails. I've used UPS (uninterrupted battery system) to keep things running when the power goes out initially. They are designed for computers, but I've used them to run pumps, powerheads, and the Apex. Over the past 60 days, I've had some really old one die. When they do, they bleep or blare a never ending sound which indicates it needs a new internal battery.
However, mine are really old and once that happens, my faith waivers and I debate getting just the battery versus the full device new in the box. Today I picked up two new APC UPSes to back up to critical parts in my home: the Apex controller and the modem & router setup. With both powered in a power outage, I'll still get a notification that the system may be at risk.
Besides providing some extra power in an outage, these also help protect against surge damage. I didn't opt for the bigger ones since I won't be taxing these with a heavy load. This will help prevent issues during brief outages. Keeping the internet running is important when you run an internet based business.
The 3-year warranty was an additional perk.
