I now have three fish. I went looking for a first fish and ran across some blue reef chromis damsels. I got three of them. These things seem to be hungry all the time. I guess that s a good thing though. They are active during the day and are always out above the rocks. All seem to be getting along OK. They always seem to be hungry. When I got home I tested the water salinity the new fish were in and got 37 mS. I rechecked it with a refractometer and got 24ppt. Is it normal for LFS's to keep their salinity that low in their tanks? So I took a long time acclimating them.
I also got the board to convert my ATO pump to a second generation pump so it would get along with the 2 I got for automatic water changes. I got it last December and the two new ones a couple months back. I guess the original one was having issues with one of their controllers so they changed the buss line for power to the motors. It took about 10 minutes to install the new board. Now all three pumps are working from the same power supply. I got the AWC pumps calibrated to each other. I did a flow catch for ten minutes and got 1 and 3/4 cup of water. I set the controller to turn them on for 8 minutes 3 times a day. That should be around 8 gallons a month roughly if I calculated correctly. So far all seems to be working well with this but it has been running a couple of days.
It looks like the diatom wave is over for now. The photo above was taken today along with the one below. The one below is from a different angle than I usually take them. The light from the window did a good job of lighting that side of the tank for the photo this morning.
It does not look as blue in the tank as it does in the photos. Everybody have a happy holiday.
