My main reef has some valonia here and there that Spock can't get due to their location, so I decided I wanted to add some emerald crabs. However, I have a Melanurus and a Mystery wrasse and my concern is that they'd be devoured as tasty snacks. I did some homework via Google and the articles I read didn't indicate a problem, so I'm going for it. I'll be sure to update y'all if in fact one or both of these wrasses hunt down my new emeralds.
I bought them before the LFS closed, and floated the bag in the sump for a few hours waiting for lights out. When the moonlights came on, I knew it was nearly time and acclimated them to the reef's water. Here they are, waiting patiently in a one-gallon bucket.
When it was completely dark, I carefully placed two emeralds at a time in the birdsnest colony within the 400g. There's plenty to eat there and they know how to retreat into the branches or rockwork. Ideally I'd like to see them out and about from time to time - if only to see a claw reaching out into the light every so often.
The blood shrimp is for the 60g Anemone Cube. I already have one in that tank and the eels have left it alone. From two different hobbyists, I've been told when they are paired up, they are less shy. I turned off the Vortech pump and carefully released the shrimp into the rockwork, making it a point to steer it clear of the anemones' tentacles. It found a nice spot on the rock and stepped out of my hand.
Now I'll wait and see. I'd like to see the pair come out into the open and give me some nice photo opportunities. And I'd like to see less valonia algae in the 400g. Maybe my wish will come true.
