Electrobes

So as some of you know I make "Rock Structures", or however you name them (I've been corrected any number of times!). This is something I like to do, and it keeps me deeper in the hobby without burning me out. I wish I could say I am some type of savant in designing Rock Structures, but this would not be true. It takes me quite a bit of time to create these things to the point I think they look pretty decent. What do I mean by this? Well, believe it or not, I try to make it look as natural as I can... truly an ironic statement! That, to me is the hardest part in building these structures. How does one build it to where the owner will not only like the initial look of said structure, but also remain pleased with it as it grows with the tank (Coral growth, etc).

Hardest yet is one particular structure that many of us are interested in, but to make it look natural? Yikes! It is the famous "Arch". You can't make it too round, or our brains say "Not natural enough", but make it too disjointed and our brains say "I'm looking at an arch?". This, my friends, is what drives me nuts, but at the same time provides me the challenge that keeps me coming back. Anyway.. thanks for reading my little blurb on what I like to do.. now for some pictures!

Warning: I use Picasa to edit the pictures for several reasons. 1) It's really hard to naturally show off the porosity of these rocks without messing with the "Shadow feature". The only way to naturally do this is by taking the picture in goofy light, but causing it to look SUPER yellow... which isn't natural either. 2) These structures are "3D" and a camera really only picks one area to focus in on. This causes the other "points" of the structure to look unfocused and fuzzy. I use the "Sharpen" feature to help clear that up.. but at the same time it makes the pic look a little weird. Oh well, a master photographer.. I am not.
