Since I've been MIA...

April FTS. Ignore the patch in the center that didn't get cleaned. The urchin was there.


Did my annual sort through of my basement this past weekend. Got lots done, turfed some old stuff and found some long lost space. Tentative panels in place now for the skirting. The left side and the roof is left to do.

The tank is fully up and running now. I'm running an Octopus Diablo 350 skimmer with 4x250w MHs

When I first got it


In action. I empty the skimmer daily. The collection cup COULD overflow after about 4-5 days if it wasn't maintain.


I also have a Squamosa clam with a commensal shrimp.




I'm working right now on dialing in my dosing regimen. I am trying out 2-part dosing for the first time ever. While the tank parameters have all settled, the trifecta; Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium are tricky to dial in given the water change situation and the fact that I have been using 3 different types of salt since December. Lately I spend a lot of time testing parameters and tweaking dosing. I keep telling myself that soon I won't be testing everything daily anymore because it gets old quick.

    It's a big system and with that much water, it must be quite challenging to dose correctly and adequately even with a low bio-load. The stand looks nice.

    I've been pretty good about keeping a water volumn count everytime we've added equipment. Granted it will still always only be a tentative number, but I'm dosing using 550US GAL as our water voumn for now. You're right, its a challenge to dose correctly, lots of testing and tweaking. Its getting there, but its really tedious. It will pay off though!

    Wow, that's all I can say. It's going to really look spectacular after it's had a couple years to grow in.
