Hey guys, I just thought I would give a quick update since it has been a couple months since my last one. First let me start by saying I have sadly neglected my tank but not because I wanted to but I got a promotion at work then my boss took a vacation meaning I got to do his job (meaning I am typing this on my work break now.) My sps after growing and looking good went into decline browning out, loss of polyps, and in one case rtn (which has stopped at the tips of the coral.)
I think there was some type of toxic from one coral or some unknown entity present in the water but i didn't notice it until this week. it started with the sps showing signs of distress, then I had a big filtering clam die in my tank (which I couldn't tell until it was fully dead and opened up empty) which I am sure hurt my bio load following by my pincushion urchin being found dead. I am not sure how long it had been dead when I found it but it was starting to bleach on one side. Well so after a few water changes I started running carbon. The color is starting to come back into my sps again and my monti cap is starting to hit a new growth spurt so I am taking that as a positive sign. My toadstool is fully opened up but is droopy and has been droopy for about 2 weeks now if anyone has any experience with that. My GSP have also had a growth spurt and is starting to grow on my front glass which I need to trim it back but last time I trimmed it back I had my fist experience with a bristle worm finding my finger with it's spikes (thank you duct tape.) I know people have mentioned the possibility of GSP being toxic so I have been considering finding it a new home.
Now that things should be settling down soon I am hoping that I can start giving my tank proper attention again soon and perhaps look at installing a calcium reactor, another vortech, and some new lights as well as doing a sand bed change.
If anyone has any input or experience with my particular occurrences I would love to hear any input. Until next time
