OMG - the 400g is leaking

Rate this Entry
I'm sorry to report that the 400g tank is leaking. I was about to go to sleep, and thought I heard water splashing on the floor. And it was, unfortunately.

I caught this very early, well before the floor drain could work its magic, but for now the 400g has been drained about 50% for the night, and tomorrow I need to make some calls to see who can fix this locally.

I'm very unhappy as you can imagine. I have containers of saltwater near the tank, and the sump is full. The pumps were lowered in the tank to maintain flow. This is a disaster, as I'm reasonably sure it has to be taken down completely to repair it.

oh man, so sorry to hear that... i cant believe it.. tank is just over a year old. I am sure you are going to contact the manufacture about it, what kind of warrantee do they have? I know that really dosent help you much in this sutiation, but i would like to see if the builder of the tank will back up their work. Keep us updated..

This is not good considering I have a similar tank on the way. I wonder why the seem split right in the middle? Seems like any buckling would split it at the top or bottom. Is the tank still level in all directions and not twisted in any way? I am very sorry to hear this Marc, I wish I could help in some way.

And to think, we were just talking about your good luck. This SUCKS! All I know is that no tank warranty can replace that sinking feeling when your tank is leaking and your livestock is in jeapordy. I hope it can be fixed!!

Marc, I am soooo sorry to hear this. Hasn't been up that long, hopefully still under warranty. But besides that, such a pain to have to scramble to move fish, corals.

Good luck, Marc. I imagine that you were not able to get any sleep last night. Hopefully, you can figure out a short term patch to keep things up and running until a solution can be found.

OMG I'm so sorry to hear. I was just searching through your photos 'cause I love your tank so I'm sad that it'll be taken down again. Good luck.

    NO NO NO!!! NOT AGAIN!

good thing you love reefing so much!

who is the mermaid reflected in the overflow?

Marineland doesn't offer a warranty unless you use their wooden stand. This was definitely unexpected.

    That's Marilyn Monroe, Carl.

Wow!!! Not good Batman. Like everyone else, I'm very sorry to hear this. Do you still have all the pieces of the previous "temporary" set up?
  14. cyano's Avatar
WOW! Marc I am so sorry to be reading this, literally my heart sank as soon as I saw the headline. I hope that you still have all the equipment from your temp setup available. Are you running a wave type setup? I have no idea if this is the issue and I have no personal experience of it happening, but I have heard stories of people getting leaks due to the water crashing into the walls over an extended period of time. Just a thought. In the meantime we all wish you and your tank well and that this to be very repairable.

I know it has been said by many others on here and forums. And with me two hours away and working there's not much that can be done, but if there's anything you need help with just let us out here know. I'd be glad to help any way that I could.

Sending well wishes for your livestock your way. Be calm and make the best decisions you can in the situation today. Good luck.

Reef keeper and air traffic controller! What is the difference All about crisis management at this point Marc, you're good at this. Just remind yourself mid-seam is better the bottom seam, although not by much. You have a chance to move live stock, that is a good thing. Hopefully, you have no shortage of local reefer's standing in your living room willing to assist right now

Damn Marc I feel sick for you right now. Maybe time to build yourself an acrylic tank? Or do you think it's repairable? Well every cloud has a silver lining, and in the past you have mentioned how you have never been fully happy with your reef (looks ok to me!). Perhaps this can be an opportunity to change what you wanted to? Good luck man, hope to still see you at MAX this weekend! All though if not well we'll all understand.

I got a PM this morning reminding me how now it would be easier to get the angels out of my reef, as if I'd done this on purpose for that reason alone.
