make up water

Rate this Entry
since starting my 125 gallon reef tank with 25 gallon fuge i have been adding aprox 2.5 gallons of make up water per day. There seems to be high humidity in my house so I bought a dehumidifier. Ironically it pulls about 2 gallons of water per day out of the air in the room. My question is "can I use the condensed water as makeup water? It must be pure water. Thanks Kitch

I recently started recirculating my skimmer air by pulling the air from the skimmer cup and feeding it to the recirculating pump air intake. It seems to be making a big difference in evaporation/humidity though I don't have any quantitative numbers. You may want to give it a try yourself if you have a similar setup...

it also pulls anything attached to the moisture in the room as well as whatever is in the air, so any lysol, cologne, perfume, cleaner....ect ends up in that so just toss it out, heck all that humidity is probably from the tank to start with but still no i wouldn't reuse it

chances are the condencer coil is copper, definitly a bad idea

i evap about 1gallon per day and the dehumidifier can completlly fill up 3.5gal this time of year, much more in the summer so i think it depends on the house
