Illness in my tank!

When to the fish store and purchased a brown tang..... I acclimated and it was swimming great for a three days I noticed discoloration and then started to see my other Tangshan getting the same discoloration... I tested water
and all measurements were great... Then I came home the next day and all my Tangs were dead.... I figure it was the Tang I brought.... So I did some water changes and added a skimmer to remove all the decay.... I now have 5 fish in the tank and they look great.... What should I do before adding more fish again..... Should I run carbon? Or add anymore chemicals?

    If the fish are all appearing healthy currently, the water isn't the issue necessarily. Any clue if any of your other fish are aggressive and attacking the newcomer? What about a peak of water temperature each day, and the lowest point at night around 5am? If the daily swing is too great, it can affect fish health and even kill some.

    What's the discoloration exactly? Got any pictures?

    My water temp according to my controller ranges from 79 to 81. 81 is when the metal halides go on. I no longer have this fish. All the Tangs have deceased but the yellow Tangs at the end looked pale yellow and have not seen any aggressive behavior.

    What fish do you have specifically?

    I currently have a cardinal, lawnmower blenny, 6 line wrasse and chromis. The only fish that died were the tangs and clown after i added the brown tang. This is the reason i think it was the fish. I had blue tang and two yellow Tangs and added the brown tang. All the other fish are good.

    If there is an actual disease in the water, those current fish may be strong enough to resist it, like an immunity. It's best to quarantine new fish to make sure they are healthy and eating prior to putting them in with your livestock.

    I would resist any more fish purchases for now and just enjoy your tank for what it is for a month or so. If all goes well, shop for a new healthy-looking fish and put it in QT for a minimum of three weeks to make sure it is active, eating and doesn't display any symptoms of disease / infection. Thereafter, you can acclimate it to your system and introduce it to the other livestock.
