Does coral color reflect it's lighting requirements

Rate this Entry
I been doing some research about this and cant find any hard core yes or no answers or really any good info to back this up either way. So my question would be do corals of the same species and genus with different color of zooxanthellae have different par requirements because of color

That is a very interesting question. Have you asked the folks at WetWebMedia or maybe email someone over at Advanced Aquarist?

I don't know the answer but let's look at it this way: Zooxanthellae is actually golden-brown, and the color that we see is from pigments and florescent proteins produced by the corals themselves. So the amount of energy that the zooxanthellae are getting is light at the location of the coral minus the filtering done by the coral's pigments and maybe even enhanced by the florescence. I would imagine that different color pigments and florescence is having some kind of an effect, but I don't know how much of an effect.

no just the search engines looking for articles.See alot of conflicting listings on the same corals from one place to another. Plus ive notice some difference in the green and blue digi I have green seem to like less light and gains color as i move it down and the blue browns out in the same area
