Blue-Green Chromis Spawning

Rate this Entry
Well it seems my Chromis have decided to start spawning. I shot some video but its not the best. Pretty cool though, I now have a mated pair of clowns and chromis. Any ideas how often this will happen? Sorry the videos aren't the best but I'm sure I'll get another chance.

Hello has the male taken on a color change cant really tell on my laptop. One of our LFS has a breeding program and the male chromis gets all yellow down the sides and belly when it time to dance.Called them this morning about another issue and they said the chromies are just like clown fry start them on rotifers and any that make the 2 week mark are usually a success .keep up the good work could be some LFS credit in it for you.Have you raised any of your clown fry yet.We had a clown fish hatching on Tuesday night to bad i was sick and not really prepared
    Happy tanks to ya

That's a new one for me as well. I've never read about anyone raising Chromis before.

Looks like you may have a chance to be a pioneer on this one

I hadn't heard anyone raising chromis either. The larvae are a lot smaller than clown larvae and much for difficult to raise. I check the MBI site and no one has been successful in raising them on there. I have a had a trio that spawns frequently, however, the eggs are tiny and I have been able to find them in my display tank. Here is a video that I captured during one of the spawnings.

Mike, what size tank is that?

That was in a standard 180G

You have a lot of fish in there. I was wondering about the tank size. Not drilled, to boot!

Marc, the video that is posted above is old (before I moved and relocated the tank). The tank did have an overflow flow box that lead to another 100 to 150 gallons of sump and was hooked into my old breeding set up. I also got rid of the tangs when I relocated it.
