Auto Top Off DIY Question

Rate this Entry
Thanks to all for your advice in recent past. I have completed all the plumbing work and sump building work as previously helped and suggested by you guys.

My question is around where in my sump should my float valve go. I have a three section sump: a water return, a section for the protein skimmer, and a section for the return pump; and since I am new to this have no clue which section will suffer first from the lower water levels as evaporation occurs. Does this question make sense?

As I sit here and look at it it seems as if it would have to be in the water return section; as the tank evaporates and returns less water then the sump will have less water to push thru the rest of the process...

Thx for listening; I would appreciate someone who knows saying, "do it this way."

It should be the return section (going back to display tank), which should also be the lowest baffle in the sump.. all other levels will remain steady until the return section goes completely dry.

Agreed, the return section should be the only place the water level changes.

Agree to the previous comments. When I do a water change it is visible how the return pump area is where water level goes down in the sump.
