Testing 40 extra long

So I am in the beginning stages of starting my next system. I have always been intrigued by trying to simulate a more natural water flow and now I will start testing a different size tank. I got some free glass and made a quick mock up system to see what I might want in the final design.

I have searched online to try to find similar sizes with vortechs running and could not really come up with much so I had to make my own.

The main power will come from a MP10es, which will be producing the pulsing waves. I am curious to what waves produced from the Vortech might look when I incorporate a deep and shallow end.

Here are some pictures of the testing tank just finished. The size of the test tank is in the general idea of the kind of dimensions that I am looking for because of the free glass that I got. The tank right now measures 60" x 12" x 12"

I will keep this updated as I add more pictures and video of the waves that I come up with.

    are the end of each side 2 separate pieces sealed together? If so I would have some concerns on the integrity of those two pieces holding under the pressure of water.

    Yes there are two pieces that I had to cut to make fit. Since this tank is only going to be used for testing, it is only a temporary situation. No way would I have that for a long term tank. I just want to play with the Vortech on a long shallow tank and see what kind of waves I can come up with. Then (which will be the interesting part) I will add an angled piece of glass to create a shallow end and see what the waves look like.

    The only money I have in this is the silicone so its cheap practice.

    This is all information that I will use to put together a long rimless drilled tank.

    Tonight I did a leak test ... and found a leak. I drained the tank to let it dry and wont have time to try again till Thursday. If it holds then I will get video up

    So I think I am not using the correct silicone after a second leak. I used (brand name escapes me) Clear window and door. I am going to look into this and get back to work. I really want to get this test system up and going.

    Why aren't you buying Aquarium-Safe silicone? DIY is fine, and you do save money, but silicone is key. Spend the dollars to get something that is designed for this job.

    Thats just it, I thought I was using the correct type as instructed by somewhere else online :/ ...
    What kind is the best one to use???

    Your LFS sells it, and you can probably find it in the glues & tape section of Home Depot, Lowes & Walmart. Don't look near the caulk.
