So, Here's to asking the Million Dollar Question..... How does one balance the entire setup to eliminate the slurping sound the Weir box Makes...
In recap, 120 Gallon tank, the Sump is modeled after a Model F from marc's designs out of a 29 gallon aquarium (overflow splits to 2 sections, 1st being where the skimmer will sit and the 3rd section where the fuge is.) BTW, the Ball valve is located above the fuge....I could leave this one open and cut in a new Ball valve right over the entry into the Skimmer Section. Lastly, I built an 8 inch weir box and plumbed the return with a 1 inch bulkhead and associated pvc pipe. The return pump currently is a Rio 1400 and I expect to move to a larger pump like a 2500 rio or a mag 9.5 within the next month....
Does everyone have a slurping sound from their Weir/Overflow box? Do I need to change the plumbing out to 3/4 inch to the sump and fuge???And the Tank Water level is Just at the top of the teeth of the Weir box. Would a Smaller Weir box ( 7 inch width) make a difference?
Any ideas??? Anyone??? Or should I leave well enough alone until it's saltwater, I know that saltwater has a greater density than fresh water, will that make a difference?
Below are some photos: I raised the inverted U section of the Weir Box, this with the Strainer vertical, reduced the sound somewhat.... Yesterday, I had a 90 degree Elbow with the strainer and that was worse....
Thanks,
Aaron
