Sea Hare

Rate this Entry
A few months ago I got a Sea Hare to help with cleanup duties... After 2 weeks it died... My wife loved the little guy and looked for it every day... I have learned they can be difficult to keep, with a very high death rate... I have researched the web and can't find any good info on how to keep it living other than good water quality and that is still no guarantee of success... Any insight would be helpful... Thanks

They need lots of food, like a tank full of hair algae. Usually when people get these, they have the next few people lined up to take turns letting the hare clean up their reef tanks, so that it stays well fed.

I bought one because of my very bad outbreak of hair algae. I put him in the tank, all water test were good. he cleaned 1 rock in a half hour, maybe, 6 x 7 inches. did a great job too. he went into hiding, did not see him for a week, popped up on the other side of my 75 gallon tank, went back under and never seen him again. I decided to take out some rock and manually clean them in water I took out of my tank for water change and found him dead and shriveled up. I had high hopes for him. but I guessed wrong. Sorry can not help here.
