My zoas are going throughout some changes

Rate this Entry
I have a rock that I got from a friend that had some neat orange zoas on it. It also had a small carpet aneome on it as well. I put the rock in the tank and the carpet moved and the zoas are doing great, but within the past month or two of growth they have all started to change colors. Some are still orange but some have started to change to a pale blue when the actinics are on. They are all healthy and still growing. Is there a reason for the color change?

Looking at them under blue lighting isn't a good indicator of coloration. If they aren't staying the same vivid color you saw before, it could be water quality or a lack of food available. Zoas come from dirtier waters, while we tend to try to keep clean low-nutrient systems.

I will have to get some pictures up that show the coloration differences. The zoas that were orange are still bright orange. It looks like all the new growth are taking on colors of other zoas in the tank.

Pictures are always best. If you have before and after, even better.

That doesn't work. Those images are still on your computer. You need to upload them to the web somewhere, like Photobucket.com
