I have been thinking about the plumbing for a while and decide to use sketchup to get it down on paper. My goal is to have the setup to be as clean as possible. After seen glassreef build I wanted to do a clean build but under the stand(s). After much reading I plan on using the herbie overflow system. The two 1 inch holes will be used as the main drain and the two ¾ inch holes will be the emergency. The Main drain will be tied together into 1.5 inch pvc and a gate valve will be used to control the level. I should note that I will be using a 1 inch seaswirl I picked up cheap for a club member and I will also be running a manifold. The idea is to have one pump run the entire system except the chiller. There are some things I need to change or add in the pictures bellow but after several hours I had enough of sketchup for the day.

Here you can see the manifold up top with the ball valves. The pipe will be 1.5 inches and then I will reduce it in the tee to ¾ inch. The two pipes going into the sump on the far right are the emergency overflows from the 20’s. The two next to it with ball valves (I will use gate valves) are the main drains from each 20 gallon tank. In the right and left cornor you will see 2 pvc elbows which are the drains from the 120. I didn’t feel like doing that in sketch up. You will also notice the grey pvc and the electrical boxes. The plan is to have two outlets which will be individually wired to be controlled by an apex controller.



Here is a quick sketch of how the main drain will be under the stand. Blue = 1 inch and Red = 1.5 inch. The gate valve is 1.5 inches as well



Gate valves are kind of big so I am thinking I will make it so it will be accessed from the right through one of the 20 gallon stands.



I am using a NIB Turbo Sea 1740 high pressure pump that I picked up for $120.00. It wasn’t what I was planning on using but I couldn’t pass it up. Here you can see how it is going to be Teed.



I am still debating the back. I live in an rental so I wasn’t to make sure it can come apart easy enough. This picture shows the two drains on each of the 20 and the return for the 120. I didn’t add the returns for the 20’s because I was tired of sitting at my computer. Something that I have been considering is hard plumbing everything under the stand and bring it out the back slightly by drilling a few holes in the plywood(remember it is not opened like in the picture). I would then use barb fittings and use braided nylon tube for the returns and overflows. I also plan to have 8 conrolled outlets onthe back.



I was thinking about buying all of the true union valves, gate valves, bulkheads while they were on sale today for 20% off but after seeing that the bill was still $300 I decided I will hold off until I have a job. I can’t believe how much they cost.
