I wanted to hang my light above my aquarium with style, on a budget so I found a tutorial online on how to make a

    Tools used:

    • Drill
    • Measuring tape
    • ¾" Pipe bender ($40 at Home Depot)
    • Various drill bits
    • Pipe cutter

    Shopping List

    • Two – 10' lengths of ¾" conduit pipe (get a third one because you'll make mistakes while bending)
    • Two sets of “Sunlifts” from Sunlight Supply (link)
    • Four 1" hooks
    • Four decorative nuts (I got mine from a Current light fixture set, but I’m sure they sell something comparable at Home Depot)
    • Four ¾" brackets for attaching

I was up at my LFS tonight, and he was ready to install his brand new Radions into the canopy fixture. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to play with these for a bit, and took pictures with my iPhone4 as time allowed.

Two days ago, i posted on our Facebook/reefaddicts wall that Ecotech released information to upgrade the current LED reflector with their new TIR lens. Frank had a bag of these lens already, so I offered to swap out a pair to see what was involved. Initially I figured you had to take out two screws to pull off this silvery plastic reflector dish. ...

I have noticed that there are not many places where you can find information on DIY LEDs for beginners, and I haven't seen any blogs on Reef Addicts yet, so I thought I'd post my experience. I am not an expert by any means, I am just a beginner myself. This article will only include what I have learned from others and what I've learned from my own mistakes. If there is any information that is incorrect or not complete please comment below and this article will be updated.

Have you ever calculated how much time is spent with your aquarium versus your friends and family? It adds up to more than you might think. With this obsession we call a hobby, some tasks or husbandry practices we perform can monopolize our schedule and soon turn us into a slave to our system. With azooxanthellate corals (azoox), you will find that their constant feeding requirements will consume your time quickly. But don't let the dark side of reef keeping discourage you! There is a way around it....automate your feeding!

For several years, I've been recommending a specific bulb to light the refugium area. The reason I like it is simple: it's inexpensive, easy to clean, and doesn't use much power. Not to mention the 5100 Kelvin spectrum works great for macro growth. Here's the original article with the link to ordering them online (they are NOT available at Home Depot). I recently placed a new order with the company, and the salesman told me they were very popular in the aquarium hobby - imagine that. I guess Melev's Reef did a good job getting the word out.
