Ok what's the deal on vortechs? they seem really powerful and very expensive. arent they too powerful? I dont understand how they would not be destructive?

Hello every one new to the site but have been in the hobby for a couple of years.

Just moved my 55 tanks into a new 75 gallon and looking for some advice on a new skimmer. Right now I have seaclone skimmer which I got for free from a friend who was getting out of the hobby. I have never been able to get it to work the the way a skimmer should. I have included a picture of my sump area and tank. After a couple weeks with the 50 gallon frag tank sitting next to my old 55, I decided that it was finally time to get moving. I borrowed a DIY fish trap from a local reefer and took a few days getting everyone over there. I also had to get some coral off of large rocks that I couldn't fit in the 50, so I got out the rotozip's dry diamond wheel and made some frags. I used the "pegging" method that Marc showed me and I'm loving it so far.

The only places I can find locally are petco or petsmart and am wondering if anyone ever bought from them? I have heard bad things on buying livestock from them. I am considering saltwaterfish.com, but am skeptical of the stuff being overnighted. Any suggestions? I am just getting ready to set up the tank and am going to just have sand and rock for a month or two to let things get stablized.
