  1. Update - 58g, 9 months and counting

Home from work today; with a hot cup of bean as my muse, I'm inspired to post an update.

I guess I should start by talking about some of the teething problems I've had with this tank. My intention was to create an automated system, making me responsible for only feedings and water changes. I’m very happy with the way everything has turned out. My interest and energy for the hobby is as strong as it ever was. This is my second tank and is moving towards its first full year of operation.

  2. Feb Chemistry ( Stability Update)

Well, My LFS advised me to try the chemical - Stability; to Cycle the tank with and after a weeks worth these are the readings taken at noon today.
    temp - 80.5
    SG - 1.024
    PH - 8.0
    Ammon - 0.00 ppm
    Nitrite - 0.00 ppm
    Nitrate - 20 ppm.

I dont have test kits yet for Alkalinity or calcium...

Am thinking that a 10% water change is in order and to see what the Nitrate comes down to???? or perhaps a 20%??

  3. Cyanobacteria

So I am currently having a problem with cyanobacteria. Nitrates and phosphates are both very close to 0. I am looking for the best way to remove it. Manual removal or chemical?

  4. 75g February update with a crappy camera

Well, the fishless reef is actually doing very good as far as inverts and corals go. I've finally had some decent success with sps corals, letting them encrust down onto the rocks plugless for a more natural look. I can't wait to get some fish back in this tank in a month or two, but I'm definitely not rushing anything in after losing everything during the transition to ich. If I had kept it sterile all along, it wouldn't have even been there to infect my fish and they probably would have made it... ...

  5. I was wrong about my tank size! I actually have a bigger thank than I thought.

I put together my new system last summer having purchased the new display tank from an old high school classmate via Facebook. He said it was 90 gallons, and I never had any reason to question it. I knew the dimensions, as I built the stand and canopy myself. I've always calculated everything out and listed it as a 90 gallon because I am not familiar with larger tank dimensions. A few days ago I was listening to a podcast and they said a 90 gallon was something different than what I had, so today ...
