I recently found my alkalinity went to 6.1 dkh. I dosed within a few hours to bring to 7.1 in a 24 period. Will dose again to bring to 8.0 ish... So, I was cleaning the tank this morning and was saddened to see my Sally Light Foot Crab "belly up" on the bottom I know invertebrates are often sensitive to ph and alk swings.... Am slowing learning what this animal needs to be happy.... For example, Enough flow to support itself. In good flow now, as in low flow it seems to sag as if to heavy. I've had it for few years and quite slow growing? Not sure why? My question, note the right edge in the pic, it continues day after day to not quite extend tentacles/polyp thingy's. What is it saying?
Did a full battery of tests tonight to see where things are, and upped the output of the calcium reactor slightly to bring Alkalinity back up a skotch. I've been pretty busy as usual, but do enjoy the tank every day.
I took some pictures this evening so that I can have a photo record of the coral growth. I though I would share the pictures for those who might be interested. A few things I have noticed: - They do not lie when they say birdsnest is a fast grower! - The red planet frag I got was a light red when I got it. I placed it lower in the tank and it now has its trade mark green base and darker red branches. - FYI and reminder, these are all under Aqua Illumination Sol Super Blue LED ...
Well, I guess since this is my first entry I will tell a little about my tank. I started saltwater with a nano tank I acquired from a friend a little over a year and a half ago, it didn't take long to cycle since it was still used when i got a hold of it just far out of parameters. after about a two month cycling process I added a small CUC and a yellow tail damsel. One week later my first coral was added, a frag of green star polyps about the size of the tip of my pinkie finger, it had begun! soon ...
