  1. Video - Overflow Tests

So I hooked up my dual Durso standpipes and I didn't like the results at all. So I looked around for ideas on making the overflow quiet and I came across the "Bean Animal" Silent and Safe Overflow method on Reef Central. I was actually very happy with the results and I created the following video with the test results.

  2. 150 Reef Re-build Project - Plumbing Changes

Since I was rebuilding my tank I decided to do some plumbing changes. The biggest change was taking the tank from a single drain to dual drains. The existing overflow had a single drain but I also had a glass lined area used for a return line so that nothing had to run behind the tank. I don't use the return line and I wanted to have a second drain so I planned to cut out the glass panels so that I could put in another bulkhead and drain line.

  3. Return pump woes

I'm not usually one to complain about noise, but noise associated with vibration gets on my nerves. I have this Iwaki MD-20RT pump that I bought years about, probably in 2006. I never used the pump, and before this weekend never ran it more than a few minutes. It's rated for high head, and seems to run cool enough, but there is significant vibration coming off of the unit. It's driving me nuts! I can feel the vibration on the ground NEXT to the stand though the carpet.

  5. The almost all together shot...

Well folks, the time has come. By tomorrow there will be salt water in them there tank....

The aquarium has been moved into the office. Rockwork installed. Plumbing tightened (the many bulkheads that is!). I have bags of live sand and salt ready to go. The RODI machine is SLOWLY churning. I'm only making about 5 gallons every three hours or so. More tomorrow when it will look almost ready for fishies and coral.
