  1. At the Six Month Mark

It will be six months since I added water to the tank on the 22nd of this month. The latest thing to happen was an outbreak on cyano. It appears to be declining. I added some cheato to the refugium section about 3 weeks back. I think that may be the major reason for the decline. I have a light that I purchased from BML that is for lighting the refugium. They have got out of the aquarium lighting business since my purchase. This is a shame since the light appears to be of good quality. It is running ...
  2. You know what I like?

How do you keep your passion for reefkeeping? For me, it's seeing something new. Usually the best way to see something new is to visit a local fish store (LFS if you're new and don't know this acronym). As you wander around from fish tank to fish tank, you'll see all sorts of interesting fish, corals and invertebrates. Not everything you see is a candidate for your aquarium, possibly because of size limitations or maybe because of temperament. So you stare at the subject, looking on in awe of ...

  3. Three.point.five pictures from tonight

The new frag system has captured my attention recently. Watching the clean up crew decimate the algae in one day flat was impressive, and the corals pop against the stark barren rock and black background.

Here's a closer look at that frag. I love all the dots that make me feel like I'm staring into the universe.

  4. A handy stapler

When you have a guy install cable, he usually has a tool to secure it along the baseboards. It uses a rounded staple, so I recently went to Home Depot seeking one to call my own. I wanted to secure the USB cable running between the Apex and the PM1 box, as well as some RO/DI tubing running to the new frag system's top off container.

  5. pink bird nest rtn

So I came home after work yesterday to find my perfectly fine bird nest in rtn mode. It's the size of a soccer ball. Today it looks like the progression has slowed or stopped but its probably 50% affected. My fear is that the other corals will get some kind of death signal and follow suit. I'm prepared to break it apart and frag it but that's going to be a lot of frags. So here's a dumb question. Could I glue the frags together to make a new colony of sorts? And should I be looking for some kind ...
