In my effort to get my aquarium as automated as possible I purchased another great product from Avast Marine Works, the Avast Marine Works Swabbie Protein Skimmer Neck Cleaning System. The installation was simply as the product comes built unlike much of the other equipment that I have purchased in the past. Hey friends, So last night a local reefer posted coral for sale on the local forum, i jumped on the opportunity and bought 2 colonys and 2 frags. This brings the total up to 19 new pieces of coral in the last 3weeks my sand bed is getting extremely full! im acclimating now i will have pics up once everything is in the tank im going to need help with ID as we werent sure what one of the corals is. teal/green acro ...

hey guys soo ive been doing weekly 5 gallon water changes on my 65 gallon tank and the nitrates have been slowly creeping up and now they are getting way to high at 20ppm tested today. I am planning on getting a biopellet reactor in december just a little short on cash right now. Can anyone give me any advice on how many gallons i should be changing on a weekly or monthly basis??
The Calcium Reactor was quite depleted after 8 months of running on the 400g, so I cleaned it up and refilled it with more media. I disconnected it from in my sump and placed it inside a styrofoam cooler, filled it up with Muriatic Acid & water and let it run for 30 minutes. It was then taken outside and blasted clean with a garden hose to remove the acid, then I was able to wipe it out thoroughly with a sponge. It was filled up with the larger grade media from Caribsea.
