Unidentified Creature In My Sump

Rate this Entry
Hey Guys,

Last year when I was doing a little remodeling in my display tank I found a strange creature under one of my shelf rocks. While I had the rock out of the water to move to my sump I lightly poked at the mystery creature and it had a hard shell. I put it in my sump and a couple days later when I was watching the sump I noticed that this little creature moved. I've attached a picture of it. In the picture he is sitting up (for lack of a better word) but when I move my hand close to it it immediately clamps down. A couple days later I looked for it and it was gone. After some investigation I found it on another area of the rock. So I discovered it was mobile. I've attached a link to a video I took of him moving.

I thought he was the only one in my tank but I found another one in my display tank while I was tank-watching one day. This one has stayed in the same placed tucked in a hole in the rock for several months since I noticed him.

I have looked on the internet and cannot figure out what this is. Any help y'all can provide would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't seem to be harming anything but I am very curious as to what he could be.

Watched the video, and it looks like some type of filterfeeding clam. But the mantle is very odd, I never would have recognized that from the picture.
