Saturday night... here's the latest

I received an email from Marineland on Friday that informed me the trucking company would contact me Monday for pickup. I hope they pick it up that same day, since it is 100% ready and road-worthy. I ended up putting a tarp over the crate as we had stormy weather Wednesday and Thursday, thanks to a suggestion by one person here on RA. It'll be nice to have that gone.

Working in the 215g isn't what I'd consider easy. There's not much space above the tank, and the huge cross brace limits where I can reach, but I had to get my arm wet today:
  • Pulled a scrolling Pavona out of the midst of the Rose bubble tip anemone before it smothered the coral entirely. It's been relocated to an anemone-safe spot.
  • Rescued a toppled Acan, moved it to a better spot where it will stay put and not sting anything.
  • Moved the Dendros and Duncans to the frag tank where I can target feed 'em.
  • Repositioned the Leptastrea that was on its side again.
  • Readjusted two frag plugs of zoanthids so I could see them.
  • Assisted one gorgonian to regain its vertical orientation.
  • Rescued another acan that needed better placement.

I'll do another water change as soon as the crate is gone, so saltwater doesn't flow under it down my driveway.

Did any of your watch Tanked tonight? KISS tank and the Petco set up were both very cool.

You've mentioned how hard it is to work around that center brace a couple of times now. This worries me as my new tank has a 12" center brace. How wide is the center brace on a 215 as opposed to a 75?

I must have seen the rerun instead of the new show (Tanked). The one I saw was a nail polish tank and a school bus.

They ran several episodes tonight. The first one was a "best of" show, and the 10-11pm episode was the new one. I don't know if it aired earlier, because I have my DVR set up to capture Tanked when it airs.

The centerbrace of this tank is 23.5" wide. The entire tank is 72" including the plastic trim. Basically one-third of the tank is covered in permanent glass, only giving access to the two ends. I'll have to take a picture of the top so you can see it.

Remember, I've not had anything in my way since 1998 for a reason. All of my tanks were full access. On second thought, the 55g was up for two years and had that middle plastic brace that bugged me.

Sounds like a similar set up to the 75. It's 48" long and has a 12" glass centerbrace with 18" open on each end. I've wondered if I shouldn't cut it out, order some 2" wide glass strips and diy a eurobrace top for the tank, but honestly, I'm just not sure enough about my siliconing skills. Atleast my centerbrace is only half as wide as yours, so hopefully it will be a little easier to work around.

Blake, there are a ton of people that have done the DIY euro braces. In fact, I think it got its start from DIY'ers like you. You should be able to find plenty of sites showing what others have done. A75g is not that big, I wouldn't thing it would be all that dependent on the perfect silicone job.

that's a HUGE middle brace Marc. I can see how that would be annoying. I had two 6" x 2" thick braces on my tank but they did not annoy me at all. That's a MUCH smaller percentage of the tank area though.

    Did they get the tank?

No, I'm still waiting for that phone call from the trucking company.
