Unique Corals Sneak Pique Event

Rate this Entry
I know this is a little late but I want to share the experience I had at the Unique Corals Sneak Pique Event they held on 7/21. For those of you who haven't heard of them before it was started by Scott Fellman, Joe Caparatta, and John Ciotti and they are working toward providing sustainable options to the marine hobby and as far as I know the only ones getting in fish from EcoAquariums PNG in the US. They are going to be running as a website as soon as it is up and running but their facility was very impressive. The amount of holding space was huge and they were no where near capacity. They had a very nice raffle sponsored by: Current USA, TrueLumen, Ecoxotic, Karen Talbot Art, Ret Talbot Photography, Warner Marine, DFW MACNA, Reed Mariculture, Reef Nutrition and Dr. Tim's.

The proceeds from the raffle were donated to the Coral Restoration Foundation which is a great cause. The quality of the livestock is truly amazing. I came home with a few raffle prizes and purchased a few fish and snails. I purchased a pair of M. grammistes and a Sargassum Frogfish complete with Eco Labels allowing me to find out who collected them, when they were collected, where they were collected, and how they were collected. What was even more impressive is the frogfish is already off live foods. The moment I got him home he started enthusiastically eating Reef Nutrition's PE Mysis in a bottle.

The website is expected to go live soon but in the mean time you can also follow them on facebook. http://www.facebook.com/uniquecorals

The event was scheduled from 10-4 and I was there from 10:30 until 3. It was fun to spend the day talking to Scott and John as well as some of the familiar faces from MAX and Reef-a-Palooza. Here are some pictures from the event. I'm more of a fish geek so while they had an amazing selection of corals the pics are fish dominated.

Thanks for sharing your day, Jennifer! We are looking forward to seeing many of them at MACNA in September. I heard UniqueCorals is considering being a vendor, Scott is speaking, as is Ken Neidermyer of Coral Restoration Foundation. Your flight is booked, right?

I have to book the flights next week. And will hopefully be able to buy raffle tickets by the end of this month. I am so excited about going. We just haven't decided how early we want to fly in. My husband has family in that area and I have never met them so we are debating how long we want to visit with them. Plus it would be neat to check out some of the Local Fish Stores which is always fun.

We have a lot of them. Plus there's a cowboy game on Monday, if you stay an extra day or two after MACNA.
