For those of you that are within driving range of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I wanted to share a little snippet. One of our speakers is Gerald Heslinga, who is flying in for our Next Wave 2011 conference on February 26. Who is Gerald? He's the owner of IPSF.com - Indo-Pacific Sea Farms.

And here's a video he shared on Facebook today.

His topic is going to be "Sustainable Pacific Island Mariculture" and he will be talking about his...

mariculture work in Micronesia and the broader tropical Pacific, which has spanned a good twenty years. I have been in Hawaii running Indo-Pacific Sea Farms for the past fifteen years and I will focus on that work. The basic idea will be to illustrate how wide a variety of organisms is being sustainably produced on a commercial scale for reef aquariums, including some of the lesser known macroalgae forms and the functional sandbed organisms, and how they contribute to maintaining healthy captive reefs.

Gerald is an interesting guy to listen to. I believe he has the full video of culturing giant clams on his youtube channel.

The video is great. I wish that clam propagation could be done on a smaller, hobbiest, scale. I'm so jealous of what Gerald Heslinga does for a living.
