I was a flight engineer on C-141s at Travis from 1986 to 1996, stopped often at Andersen but wasn't allowed to dive, only snorkle, we were usually only on the ground for about 24 hours, but loved the sites under water.
Hope it wasn't a mistake posting the link here, too many reefaddicts might visit and tip guam over lol ..................... Nice site thanks for posting
That looks like a really good site to peruse. I'll have to check it out more fully when I have some down time.
I was stationed on Guam in the USAF (Andersen AFB) for a 15 month tour from Jan. 1990 to Apr. 1991. Got dive certified there and loved it. If I knew then what I know now, I would've extended for a year and spent every waking hour not a work under the water....ahhh opportunities lost.
You just never know with Dwarf Angels.

That's a great start! Just keep in mind.... "Once you go SPS you never go back!"
I know one thing for certain, my toadstool leather is always much happier when the Alk is at least 7.5. Up until I started keeping the Alk at 8.0 or higher my Ca always stayed above 400 just from the kalk in the top off water. Of course when I add the sump in a couple weeks the evaporation rate will change and I'll be back to square one again. Part of the reason I want to end the kalk top off and just use a straight 2 part. That way the dosing shouldn't be affected by the evaporation rate.
Actually, it's taken the reefer not the reef this long to mature. I have the sump built, now just waiting for the overflow box to get here.

Be sure to keep up with that testing until you know precisely what numbers work best for your setup.
Alk at 8.0 and Ca at 390ppm, so I dosed 2.5mg of baking soda and 70ml of Liquid Ca, will have to test again tomorrow and see how it looks.
OK, 5pm I'm off to test the parameters and dose it up!
Just a little brown Monti Digitata, though the growth tips are taking on a faint purple coloration. I'll try to post some pictures later tonight. Though don't expect much, my little Coolpix 220S is nothing compared to someone's new D90
Did someone say SPS? Whatcha got?
Mr. X-Ray: Thanks, I'm currently using Kalk in my top off water, so I'd be happy to get that from you. However, to raise the Ca the amount I need would require 3 gal of solution. Sailfintank: Thanks, that's an awesome link! Looks like I need to add 2.8oz of the Liquid Ca.
There should be reef calculators on the web to help you find that information out. You need to figure out how much water you have in place after subtracting the volume your sand and rock take up then dose accordingly. Click the hippe link and you will find what you need.
I use to dose ~triple to keep up. Check you parameters after about an hour and adjust as needed. I switched to Kalk for awhile. If you wanna try to dose Kalk. I have a big container of brand new Kent stuff ~marine depot price you can take (no shipping of course). Travel to much so now I have a new Ca reactor coming. Will be back from the slope end of this week. pm me.
Yes they do. Also, did you know about this? www.alaskafragswap.com ? I'm there under the same name. Most of them are Anchorage and MatSU but its a start.
Mr.X-Ray thanks! Looks like they've got most of what I want. Do they honor their free shipping specials to Alaska?
