Hey Phil, sorry to hear about you and ya wife! ;-( Your new plane is very nice. Hopefully you will enjoy it even more than your old one. Glad to have you back! ;-)
I got a few photos that I'll post when I get home, but it was pretty crowded so I didn't take too many.
Glad to hear ya had a great time Phil! I would like to take my wife their, heard it was nice to hang out and check out the shops. Did ya get pics? ;-)
At the airport heading home now. Sorry I didn't get your suggestions sooner, I've been without internet access since Wednesday night. I did managed to hit the Seattle aquarium, twice and spend some time wandering around that area checking out the shops and food. Weather was Awesome!
Ah yes, dungeness crab season is just around the corner Alaska_Phil...I actually live in Bellingham....about an hour north of Seattle. I hope you are having a great time. My new tank is just finishing its cycle...and I am just about to start adding some of my clean up crew. I hope to have some fish and corals in the tank in a few months. I am taking my time. You would not have much to look at.
There is/was a public aquarium at Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma as well as the one in Seattle. If you scuba right off the shore you can pick out your own crab for dinner.
Turbosek, thanks, I don't dive....yet. How far North? I'll actually be staying in Snohomish. Don't know if I'll have time since I'm down there for family reunions, but i'd love to meet a fellow reef addict and check out your tank.
I live just north of Seattle. If you scuba dive, there are some awesome places to explore in the Sound. You would not think that temperate waters could be so teeming with life. The visibility is great in cooler waters as well...upwards of 100 feet! There are a lot of dive shops that will rent you stuff for the afternoon and you can walk into the water. Be sure to visit Pike's Place Market too.
I'll sacrifice a virgin IFR chart to the weather gods before I leave to ensure smooth flying. And I always drink lots of coffee where ever I go.
Have a safe uneventful flight. And drink a lot of coffee for me. Don't forget to take pictures!
LOL, OK I'll have to watch for that. I'm heading down on the Redeye flight tonight, so I'll be looking for coffee the minute I get off the plane. Assuming of course I don't get fired for pulling that up on my work computer just now.
Don't miss this franchise! I found out about it after I got back while watching the Food Network. Needless to say, I was upset - I'm a huge fan of coffee. http://www.cowgirlsespresso.com/main.php
I'm definitly planning to hit the shore line if I have the oportunity and poke around in the tidepools. Are there other public aquariums other than the main Seattle aquarium? I'm not so interested in LFS, Can't think of anything I really need at the moment, other than more space for a bigger tank.
I was just there a few months ago. Are you thinking about visiting any stores, or only public aquariums? What about tidepools?
I'm just thrilled the little guy is still alive and well in there.
That is so cool when different species hookup. I had clowns before with anenomes and they would never host, don't know why. But that awesome yours did. And, it must be cool to watch.
OK, discovered a definite flaw with my scrubber this morning. The slot got partially plugged last night, and started squirting off the screen. this happens a lot, but this time it squirted over the side of the sump. Came in this morning to find a puddle around the tank that had seeped under the wall and into the corridor outside. Fortunately, there was only about a gallon of water left in my top off jug, so the livestock is OK, and it was a small enough spray that I only lost about 2 gallons of water total. Got a fan going trying to dry things out now, and I'll be making a little spray shield to go on either side of the algae scrubber tonight.
Salt creep has been a bit of an issue, as it will occationally send out a squirt from the top. That's why I should have left the top of the screen smooth and made the slot a tad wider. Otherwise, it usually flows pretty smoothly and makes less noise than my skimmer.
The common issues with ATSs are the salt creep you get, and the noise factor. It's a tad messy, but has worked well for others.
I really like the way you did that. I built a acrylic tray for mine on the edge of the sump dumping into my fuge and they share a single light, but this would work better, and get the light back over the fuge, tho the cheato didn't seem to mind.
