Thanks all. I'm honestly not sure what direction I'm going to go with it. I wasn't looking for a big tank, was actually hoping to score a 75. So I really don't have much idea what to do as far as landscaping and livestock yet. A few things I do know, it'll have fairly large sump with skimmer, algae scrubber and possibly a refugium with live rock rubble. I plan to use 2 part dosing and will most likely go with T5 lighting.

Lilrodyreefer: It's going on a second floor, and I was worried about the weight too. But my floor structure is accessible, so I gave the details to one of the structural engineers I work with and he said it would be fine, as long as I locate the tank across the trusses so the weight is carried by several. And he gave me some ideas for reinforcements for my own peace of mind. If you think about it, it's the same cross section as my 65, just longer, so it's the same weight per floor truss, just spread over more trusses. Fun part will be getting it up the 2 flights of stairs in the first place.

Ain't Craigslist great? My brain says its a playground, my wallet says its the DMZ.
I'm looking forward to seeing your ocean evolve! Following...

I was wondering about what floor is the tank going to be on? If it's a second or third you will have to brace the floor from underneath. A 150g is going to produce alot of weight. Just some food for thought. I'm pumped to see what it comes out like. I love big tank builds.

That's awesome news Phil! Congratulations!! You know ya want that big tank, heh. It will be a nice build, following along. ;-)

That plus the eductors must be really hard on the SCWD. The bigger one allows for a bigger pump, more pressure, easy to connect fittings and an access port to do maintenance.

The SCWD I've got says it's only rated for up to 1400 gph at not more than 5 psi. If you've got the same one your pump may simply be too much for it.

    i have a laguna pump (maxflow 2000 i think)
i have penductors on it, which might screw with the flow and could be causing some problems.....
your right about the insides just being a plastic turbine.

Mine's one I bought about 3 or 4 years ago, and no idea how long it'd been sitting on the LFS shelf. It's one of the original 3/4" style. What pump where you using? I've heard they don't work reliably at lower flows.

I've seen photo's of them opened up and it's just a little turbine with a gear reduction to drive the switching valve. Pretty simple, but I can see it wouldn't take much to gum it up.

    caption says "Jet Mixing Pumps"
im guessing its under her kitchen cabinet.... its an upgrade from the standard "Kitchen Aid" mixer...... lol
(i have a squid, and it was new and worked good for a week..... all i can say is make sure you put it where you can bang on it with a screwdriver handle or remove it to clean it... (i never had to clean mine because there was never anything in it.... i just had to bang on it every few days. now its just sending water out one port. )
a friend of mine had a 1" SCWD and he just ended up pulling out the guts and its just an expensice splitter.
let us know if you got a good one that works good. (id be willing to get a 2nd one if i knew they worked again.)

Jessy, where did you see those? Or is that tucked away in the stand of your nano?

    Sounds good to me.

I'm looking at the PanWorld 150PS, which has a zero head flow of 1100 gph, and 1" inlet and outlet.
  14. melev's Avatar
Panworld is a decent pump. If you use 1000gph pump, you'll get 800gph out of the SCWD if used in a closed loop.

    Try this size JK

    There's no such thing.

I'll wait for you and Marc to finish first. Too many build threads going on already.

LOL I think she is right, you did a great job on it.

503, but in cool weather that's lots of power! It has full doors but I haven't finished fitting it and making latches yet.
