Bioluminescent Barnacles?!? We could have a new character for Sponge-Bob! Is your video tape, or digital? Ill loan you my Digital, it has a night mode that might catch it.
Sure, that's fine. It may be worthwhile for you buy some finer mesh bags for the occasions when you treat the tank with Phosphate Control. That way the particulates can be trapped quickly - a friend of mine uses 5 micron socks for that, and within hours the sock is overflowing because it captured so much. Since your ordering your normal ones, getting one or two fine ones might be the perfect opportunity and not have to pay extra shipping later. Or get one and try it out first for a week.
Yes, you can buy just the bags. I have found $2.80 on the smaller ones and about $3.50 on larger ones. I am looking to diy a holder for them if no one had any concerns. It just seems they would be way easier to clean. Almost a rinse and go. I can post the website I have found if that's ok.
Can you get just the bags and not the metal sheath? What do they cost? You may want to get several for the simplicity of changing them out every three days.
Well, good news and bad news. I was able to get it to happen again tonight. Less from pouring in water but more from swishing the handle of a scraper in the water. Bad news is it doesn't seem to show up on video. Will download and examine it full size tomorrow but maybe they are too fast and not bright enough. I do believe it is related to the unidentified small white deposits on all hard surfaces in my sump. They are calcium like deposits that remind me of coco worm shells but do not grow. Only about 1-2mm dia.
Yeah, it does sound cool, but the first time it happens, the first thought that goes through your mind is... "Im narcing out".

BTW, this is a pretty cool first post, but without video, it can never be totally amazing. Better get the video camera ready in case it happens again.

You gotta capture that on film!!!
I am going to set my video camera up tonight and see if I can capture it. It only lasted for about 10-15 sec total and the "lightning bug effect" was only 3-4 seconds. This was the first time I saw it but I typically don't have all the lights off when adding water. My luck it was a one time thing never to be duplicated!
Where was your camera?!
