300 gallons of blog!

Details of a 300 gallon Marineland DD starphire display

  1. A month gone by...

Been a while since I've made the rounds, I thought I'd post some details of the display. First, a full tank shot from about a week ago.

While I'm very happy with the rock, I have noticed a lot of brown algae growth. After speaking with others who have used Marco rocks, this is not uncommon. Fortunately, it blows right off the rock and the turbo snails make quick work ...

  2. Proof of Life

Been getting a lot of work done lately. Most recently I've been transferring corals over. Here is a shot I took today while experimenting with white balance. It's not quite this warm in color in real life, but this was a very clear picture that provides a lot of detail, so I thought I'd share.

And a couple other shots. This is from the right side looking left (from inside ...

If you look at the top left of this panel, above it you'll see 2 black plugs going directly ...

  4. Water and a Full Tank Shot

Been a bit since I updated, but not since I've made progress. Boom.

I cut the wall and glued the trim in place on the 26th, then had a few friends sneak over to help me slide the tank in place. It was a relatively straight forward event. The glass touches the wood trim that I've installed, and once it's all settled I'll caulk it together. I hesitated a few days on filling it though, ...

  5. Lights complete. Next stop... cutting a hole in the wall.

I've been taking advantage of some down time at work to make good progress. I've not shared this image yet, so here's the completed stand.

I've also got the light rack all secured. I hung it via a rancor bike hoist, which will allow me to pull it to the ceiling if it's in the way during maintenance, while also giving me the flexibility to adjust its operational height with ease. ...
