Being a newbie to sw and reefs is overwhelming. I have been reading the forums as much as possible and trying not to ask to many questions. I find my mind going in circles and bouncing from one topic to another with out having accomplishing anything but bringing home one of my 55gal aquariums. I never had these lost mind feeling when I started cichlids in my school age days. This is just so much more complex and the wrong decision could be rather costly. I see on the left in the Facebook box a comment about Marco Rocks. I just checked out their website and their prices are WAY better than what any of the LFS have near me. Has anyone bought anything from them? If so was the quality good?

If you build your overflow in the center of your aquarium does it need to be made with the same thickness acrylic as the tank? The thickness calculator says that it will require 1/2" thick acrylic due to the pressure of the water on a 24" tall tank. I am trying to determine if I can use 1/4" or 3/8" thick for the overflow as I don't think there will be any pressure on it since it will be filled with water.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Can i use an Eheim 2217 for temporary filtration until i get my sump built?
